"Improved" service...

On my way back from IMM (Jurong East), I saw a small notice pasted on the free shuttle bus I was on. Essentially, it states that from 9th Jan 2009, the frequency of free shuttle bus between Jurong East MRT and IMM will be increased to 1 in 10 minutes (I think it is currently be 15 minutes). The service to Clementi and Boon Lay MRT will be terminated. They claimed that this was done to improve their service.

???

I was thinking: "What kind of an improvement is this?". Jurong East MRT is within walking distance from IMM. It just takes 10 minutes or so. Clementi and Boon Lay MRT are not! There is a new shopping centre near Clementi MRT that is being built and, as I have mentioned before, Jurong Point at Boon Lay MRT has almost completed its expansion. Even if IMM has decided to give up competing for customers from these 2 locations, I really can't see how their decision to terminate the free shuttle services as an "improvement" for their customers.

I would very much prefer it had they said: "Thank you for using our shuttle service for all these years. We regret that we're unable to continue providing the service to Clementi and Boon Lay MRT due to (insert true reason here)."

Da Enterpreneur...

Having recently spoken to two Indonesian enterpreneurs, I have an observation.

Singapore is superficially efficient.
Anything that's standard and routine, can and will be carried out smoothly and quickly.
Anything that's non standard, well, conquering Mount Everest might be easier.

Indonesia is superficially inefficient.
Anything that's standard and routine, can and will be made as draggy as possible.
Anything that's non standard, well, the more grease you have, the faster it gets done. (And this applies to routine stuff too! Woot!)

Last I heard, Singapore's IRAS is kinda overwhelmed by the CoD requests that they don't know how to handle it (and what caused it). My current personal conclusion: Ain't gonna bother with NPWP and CoD till I plan to buy property back home. (Even then it can just be under my parent's name.)

Old hangout...

I went to Jurong Point after work yesterday to check out a Japanese Buffet restaurant - Kuishinbou - that was recommended by my colleague. On my way there, I took bus number 154. I have not been to Jurong Point for a while, but I felt that the journey was taking longer than it used to be. The bus seems to be meandering about unfamiliar landscapes before finally reaching the destination.

Upon arrival at Boon Lay Interchange, I was stunned. The place has changed so much in the past 3-4 years. The MRT station is now filled with shops, the bus interchange has permanent commercial stalls, and Jurong Point itself is currently undergoing a major renovation.

The place was packed! And it was not even a weekend night. I made straight to the "Japanese Food Street" at B1 and took a measure on what's being offered. The section has 3-4 Japanese restaurants and Kuishinbou looks promising. There's also a Japanese Fusion Cafe called Benten on the 2nd floor that also looks promising. It seems that I have added a few more restaurants to my To Try list ^^

The only pity is that the National Library @ Jurong Point has moved.
I hope that the renovations would have been completed when I feel like going there again.
